This is a place for carefully reading the landscape, not for expecting a restored castle. Walking on the fragile walls is prohibited: wind and precipitation continue to erode the unfired masonry.

History and meaning
UNESCO describes Koshoy-Korgon as a fortified settlement associated with the medieval city of At-Bash. Its primary period of use dates to the 9th–12th centuries, though the area was also used later. Excavations have revealed residential and industrial structures both inside and outside the fortification.
The name also lives on in the epic tradition: local legends link the fortress to Koshoy, one of the heroes of the Epic of Manas. Archaeological interpretation and legend complement the cultural image of the site, but should not replace one another. A museum is located nearby, created to display the finds and support the preservation of the monument.
