After the states gained independence, at a solemn event with the participation of the entire population of the city in 1789, George Washington took office here as the first president of America, and New York became the capital of the United States.

Since then, the great influx of migrants from the Old World to this city, promising the fulfillment of all desires, began, and the rapid population growth made it resemble a huge anthill. In the mid-20th century, New York became the industrial and financial center of the planet.

Nowadays, the city has a huge number of attractions: the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, Times Square, also known as the "Crossroads of the World," the New York Stock Exchange, vying for the title of the center of global finance, the vast Central Park, Broadway theaters, famous museums, Chinatown, the Brooklyn Bridge, and many others.

The largest subway system in the world transports millions of people daily, which is why tourists can visit a maximum number of interesting places in the city in just a few days.
