About Ukraine International Airlines
The airline "Ukraine International Airlines" was founded in 1992 as the national (flag) carrier. The founders of UIA were the Association of Civil Aviation of Ukraine and the largest Irish leasing company GPA (later AerCap B.V.).
During its 15 years of existence, MAU managed to attract new strategic and financial investors. In 1996, Austrian Airlines and Swissair became shareholders of MAU, and in 2000, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) joined as an investor.
By the end of 2009, Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) became one of the key players in the aviation industry of Ukraine, holding a 20% market share. Further development required a radical change in direction, which coincided with the change in the airline's ownership structure in 2010. A key factor was the exit of foreign investors from UIA's capital, which was associated with changes in their strategy for presence in Ukraine, as well as the expiration of the standard term of investment presence in the capital of the EBRD.
At the same time, in order to ensure accessibility of airline services for passengers, the management of MAU has made a decision to systematically lower fares by excluding the cost of additional services from the ticket price. This step allowed MAU to offer customers low fares and become the world's first network low-cost carrier.
