Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is the capital of Kamchatka Krai, the easternmost city in Russia, located on the Kamchatka Peninsula, on the shores of the picturesque bay of the Pacific Ocean. The views from the city to the ocean are recognized by travelers as some of the most beautiful in the world.

The city takes its origins from the late 17th century when Russian Cossacks, during the Kamchatka expeditions, established the first log cabins in Avacha Bay for storing weapons and supplies. It is named after the ships "Svyatoy Petr" and "Svyatoy Pavel", which faithfully served the Cossacks in their maritime campaigns.
The first name of the city was "Petropavlovskaya Gavan": that's what it was called when it was granted city status in 1812, and it received the name Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the 1920s.
The population of the city is very small and amounts to approximately 200,000 people.
The main industry in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is the fishing and fish processing sectors. There are several major companies here involved in the extraction and processing of seafood.
