The city of Mirny is located in the Mirninsky District of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and serves as its administrative center. It is also known as the Diamond Capital of Russia.
This city in the Far North owes its existence to the discovery in 1955 of the largest diamond deposit, "Mir". Subsequently, the scientific and production association "Yakutalmaz" was established here, which is now a group of enterprises for the mining and processing of diamonds under "Alrosa".
